QUALITY – PURITY – POTENCY: Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that must be obtained from the diet, since many thousands of years ago, humans lost the ability to manufacture vitamin C in the body. Fortunately, it is abundant in fruits and vegetables.
Best-known as an antioxidant, vitamin C is the major water-soluble antioxidant in plasma and cells, helping to prevent the creation of free radicals, which in excess can be harmful to cells. Vitamin C is important in the manufacture of collagen and also aids in the metabolism of neurotransmitters, it stimulates the immune system and supports the body’s resistance to stress. It also helps the absorption of iron from plant sources.
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines and grapefruits are the best sources of vitamin C, although levels drop if fruits over-ripen on the tree. Other sources include strawberries, cantaloupes and papayas, as well as vegetables such as red and green peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, and dark green leafy greens. However, levels are significantly reduced during storage; stored potatoes lose 50% of their vitamin C in five months, and during cooking, particularly boiling.
Frequent colds, lack of energy, infections, bleeding or tender gums, easy bruising, nose bleeds, slow wound healing, red pimples on the skin are all associated with a lack of vitamin C.
The body cannot store vitamin C and it is quickly excreted from the body. Conditions such as smoking, environmental/physical stress, low dietary intake, increased exercise, chronic disease and diabetes also deplete levels, which is why adequate daily intake is required.
This formula also contains bioflavonoids that will help complement the beneficial effects of vitamin C.
Caution / Allergy Advice: Store in a cool dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not exceed the stated recommended daily dose. A healthy diet and lifestyle are important: Dietary supplements should not be used as a substitute for a daily diet.
